Field News July 2021

DEAR FRIENDS OF THE PLAYING FIELD,

As you probably know, our program implements Conscious Discipline®. The focus of this social emotional program is building self-regulation and resiliency. It teaches adults and children to focus on solutions instead of problems.

The past year has certainly offered us many opportunities to practice these skills! During the pandemic, we changed our model to group siblings together and eliminate the risk of passing illness between classrooms. We also installed outdoor classrooms as a strategy to promote good health. And, in the midst of all this, we opened a second location serving many children impacted by homelessness.

I am so proud of our School Family. Our staff, parents, and children have faced a lot of change. Through it all, they have demonstrated flexibility, patience, and regard for the well being of others.

On Saturday, July 17th, our School Family will come together to celebrate the grand opening of our new sensory play path. We are grateful for this wonderful new space and for the opportunity to gather together.

As you probably know, our model includes children impacted by trauma. These early adverse experiences impact children in their bodies and brains. Our new sensory play path is designed to provide opportunities for sensory input and output to support children in the process of managing emotions and building resiliency.

If you are free, please stop by. Learn more about The Playing Field and Conscious Discipline®. Tour our indoor and outdoor spaces. Enjoy family friendly activities!

Wishing you well,

Abbi Kruse

Farm Field Trip

Preschoolers from our east side location recently enjoyed a day on the farm!

Jalin Acres in Cambridge provided a perfect spot for our children to interact with horses, potbelly pigs, goats, chickens, miniature donkeys,
and alpacas!

Our teachers planned a day of fun activities. Children were engaged with giant bubbles, farm animal bingo, art and other activities. Some of our children took naps outdoors and one had a sleepy kitty join him!

We are grateful to Jalin Acres for allowing us to visit. We also want to thank our amazing staff, parents, and volunteers who made this day a success!
